On set, I have this one thing I repeatedly say to myself: One shot at a time.

I didn’t grow up anywhere near the entertainment industry. I grew up as the son of a golf pro. And before every tournament I played in or any match I had, my dad would tell me the same thing, “Take it one shot at a time." Don’t get ahead of yourself. And don’t live in the past. Simply focus on what’s in front of you.

I’ve turned that advice into the motto of how I run my sets. My directorial work generally revolves around getting an authentic performance out of athletes or celebrities, and a big part of directing them is about crafting a spot I can capture within the time constraints of their tight schedules. The time crunch can stress out a lot of directors, but I embrace the challenge. I focus on what’s in front of me and take it one shot at a time.

I’ve built my career around creating authentic, exciting performances from athletes, celebrities, and actors. A believable and strong performance should be priority number one for every director, and I take special pride in crafting that sort of performance from whoever I have the pleasure of directing.
